Sangiovese

  • one of the most important red wine grapes used in Italy. It is grown widely, particularly in central and southern Italy, and produces red wine that is high in acid and tannin and can be used to make a range of different styles of wine, from fresh, light, young wines to full-bodied reds. It is best-known as the main grape used in the Chianti red wines (where it is called Sangioveto). Some Sangiovese is now also grown in California, US.
