  • The series of eight light operas written byGilbert and Sullivan for production at the Savoy Theatre:the operas were Iolanthe (1882), Princess Ida (1884),The Mikado (1885), Ruddigore (1887), The Yeoman ofthe Guard (1888), The Gondoliers (1889), Utopia (Limited)(1893), and the unsuccessful The Grand Duke (1896). Prior totheir Savoy works, Gilbert and Sullivan had established their reputationson both sides of the Atlantic with HMS Pinafore (1878) andThe Pirates of Penzance (1880), written for London's OperaComique.
