secondary cosmic rays
Definitions
Astronomy
- Rays produced by the impact of primary cosmic rays on the Earth’s atmosphere. Secondary cosmic rays are not really cosmic in origin at all.
Electronics
- The radiation which results from the interaction of primary cosmic rays with atomic nuclei, and particles, such as electrons, in the atmosphere. The resulting high-energy particles, such as muons, are thus produced in the atmosphere, while primary cosmic rays originate in space.
