- An electron tube in which secondary electron emissions produce current amplification. In it, a cathode releases primary electrons, which are then reflected by multiple electron mirrors, or dynodes, each producing more and more electrons. Depending on the number of dynodes, the amplification factor may be in the millions. Its abbreviation is SEM Also called multiplier (2), or electron multiplier.
