  • A term pertaining to the cross section of a flexural member. The section modulus with respect to either principal axis is the moment of inertia with respect to that axis divided by the distance from that axis to the most remote point of the tension or compression area of the section, as required. The section modulus is used to determine the flexural stress in a beam.
