Their methodsinvolved ritual dances and other dramatic techniques. Shamanism was especiallyprevalent amongst Siberian nomads and Native American tribes; the word comesfrom a Siberian language. In the 20th century, directors such as AntoninArtaud (see Theatre of Cruelty) and Peter Brook haveattempted to rediscover the shamanistic roots of theatrical performance.
