shamouti

Definition

Food

  • A variety of common orange which occurred by mutation in a Palestinian orchard in 1844. It is easily peeled without releasing much oil and is virtually seedless and has a good flavour. It is not suitable for processing owing to delayed bitterness (like the navel orange). Grown in Cyprus, turkey and Swaziland.
