short-haul modem

  • noun
    (written as short haul modem)
a modem used to transmit data over short distances, often within a building and usually without using a carrier

  • A device which is intended to optimize the use of local data communications facilities, such as those within a building or with a maximum radius of a few kilometers. Such a device, for instance, can condition a digital signal transmitted by an RS232 interface so that it can be reliably transmitted up to several kilometers, instead of the standard 50 to several hundred feet.
