- Six manners in which a system or component, such as a robotic manipulator, can move in space. For instance, a robotic manipulator with six degrees of freedom would have three in the arm and three in the wrist: vertical movement, radial traverse, rotational traverse, wrist pitch, wrist roll, and wrist yaw. Its abbreviation is 6-DOF.
