- Consisting of, pertaining to, characteristic of, or arising from matter whose state is solid (1).
- Based on, utilizing, or consisting of materials which are solids (1), especially crystalline semiconductor materials. The function of that which is solid-state usually depends on electrical, magnetic, and/or optical phenomena occurring within solids, such as the movements of charge carriers in response to light. Examples include solid-state components, circuits, and devices.
- That which has no moving parts. Used, for instance, in the context of that which formerly required or otherwise utilized moving parts, such as a solid-state switch as opposed to a mechanical switch.
