- a state on the south coast of Australia, of which Adelaide is the capital, that grows close to half of all the grapes harvested in Australia. South Australia produces some of the country’s best red, white and sparkling wines and includes the well-known Barossa Valley region (home of the famous Penfolds Grange wine estate), Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra and Padthaway regions.
