  • The net electric charge within a given region, due to the presence of charged particles such as electrons, protons, ions, or the like. A space charge may also be created by etectron holes in semiconductors. Examples include a cloud of electrons around a cathode or anode in an electron tube, or a space-charge layer in a transistor.
