• The response of a component, circuit, device, piece of equipment, system, transducer, or material, to electromagnetic radiation, as a function of frequency. The greater the sensitivity to a given frequency or band, the greater the response. For instance, the output of a photocell in relation to the wavelength of incident light. Also called spectral sensitivity, or spectral characteristic.
