spiffy

Definition

Slang

  • adjective smart, dapper, impressive. A word which, since it is in mainly middle- and upper-class use, is generally considered colloquial rather than slang. It derives from the archaic 19th-century dialect word ‘spiff’ (noun and adjective), meaning (a person who is) dandy or smartly dressed, which is also the origin of spiffing and spiv.
