  • noun the attempted censorship by the British government of revelations made by a former MI5 intelligence officer in his book ‘Spycatcher’, published in 1987. Despite arguments that he had signed the Official Secrets Act, the courts held that the book should be published in full and the press could publish excerpts, as the information was in the public interest.
