• A standard reference electrode usually consisting of a solution containing hydrogen atoms at a unit concentration, into which a platinum electrode is immersed, and over which hydrogen gas is passed at a specific pressure. This electrode has an arbitrarily assigned potential of zero, and other electrode potentials are compared to it. Also called hydrogen electrode (1).
