# standing-wave ratio

## Definitions

### Electronics

- For a given transmission line, such as a coaxial cable or waveguide, the
__ratio__ of the maximum voltage to the __minimum__ __voltage__. It is a measure of the impedance matching of the line. This ratio is __equal__ to 1 when there is complete impedance matching, in which case the maximum possible __RF power__ reaches the __load__, such as an antenna. Also called voltage standing wave ratio. - For a given
