static balancing

Definition

Cars & Driving

  • noun the process of checking a wheel’s balance by seeing if it stops in the same position when rotated; if it does, a small weight is attached to the rim opposite the heavy area (i.e. opposite the bottom of the wheel when it stops rotating). A tyre and wheel assembly is in static balance when the weight of the wheel is evenly distributed around the axis of rotation.
