  • lumber designed to be used for stair treads. Stepping is vertical-grained and is customarily shipped kiln-dried, surfaced three sides, and bull-nosed on one edge. Besides the "C & Better" and "D" grades of solid wood, stepping is also made from particleboard for use where it will be covered.
