  • An instrument or device which is utilized to listen to internal body sounds, such as heart beats.
  • A stethoscope (1) which incorporates electronic components such as amplifiers and filters, which enable internal body sounds, such as a heart murmurs or lung wheezes, to be heard more clearly and loudly. Such stethoscopes can usually be connected to a computer, enabling storing, further analysis, and transmission of the recorded sounds. Also called electronic stethoscope.
