  • Tools that perform work by placing the sharp end (called the working end) of the tool on a surface and striking the other end (the struck end) with a hammer. The working end of a struck tool must be kept sharp. The face on the struck end must be kept smooth and even to prevent off-center blows. Examples of struck tools include chisels, punches, and wedges.
