  • A speaker utilized to reproduce frequencies below a given threshold, such as 100 or 200 Hz. A subwoofer should be able to faithfully reproduce audio down to around 30 Hz, although some extend to below 15 Hz. Used, for instance, in a home theater system. Also spelled sub-woofer.
