  • In a lead-acid battery or cell, the growth of large lead sulfate crystals on a plate or other internal part, which makes recharging more difficult. It may result, for instance, from self-discharge, or improper charging or maintenance. The lead sulfate crystals occurring in such a battery or cell are usually much smaller.
