  • A non-metallic chemical element whose atomic number is 16. It is known to exist in four allotropic forms, two of which are yellow and crystalline, while the other two are dark amorphous solids. It has close to 20 known isotopes, of which 4 are stable. It is widely found in nature, and its applications include its use in the preparation of sulfuric acid, and in vulcanization. It is also spelled sulphur, and its chemical symbol is S.
