- A hardy herbaceous perennial, Myrrhis odorata, with feathery leaves and long (up to 20 mm) ridged black seeds. The leaves have a pleasant myrrh-like scent and flavour with a hint of aniseed. Both the unripe and ripe seeds have a stronger aniseed flavour. Unripe seeds may be used in salads, ripe seeds as a spice. The leaves may be added to soups, stews, or used to flavour omelettes, salad dressing and cabbage.
