switched Ethernet

Definition

Electronics

  • An Ethernet network that uses switches instead of hubs and repeaters, and which provides the full bandwidth available to each pair of connected nodes. Depending on which version is used, the dedicated bandwidth between the sending and receiving stations can range from 10 Mbps to over 100 Gbps. In shared Ethernet all nodes must compete for any available bandwidth.
