  • A hub which provides the temporary linking of two communications terminals in order to establish a communications channel. This circuit must be established before communication can occur, and remains in exclusive use by these terminals until the connection is terminated. Used, for instance, by telephone companies to enable dial-up voice conversations, or for the temporary linking of two data terminals via a dedicated channel.
