  • a classic red wine grape variety historically grown in the Rhône valley region of France where it produces very good, spicy, aromatic red wines with aromas of berries. This grape variety is widely grown in other countries, including Australia (where it is called Shiraz and is now the most widely planted variety in the country), South Africa and in the western US.
