A thick pastemade from ground, husked or unhusked white sesame seeds mixed with sesame seed oil and of the same texture as peanut butter. The unhusked seeds give a darker and more bitter paste. Used in savoury dishes and as a constituent of hummus. In Asia usually made from toasted seeds.
