temperature coefficient of resistance
Definition
Electronics
- A change in the resistance of a component, device, or material as a function of temperature. A negative temperature coefficient of resistance indicates a decrease in resistance as temperature is raised, while a positive temperature coefficient of resistance indicates an increase in resistance as temperature is raised. Most conductors have a positive temperature coefficient of resistance, while most semiconductors and insulators have a negative temperature coefficient of resistance. Also called temperature coefficient (2), or resistance temperature coefficient.
