  • An established standard for stating temperature values. An absolute temperature scale, such as the kelvin scale, is based on absolute zero, so its zero degree reading equals absolute zero. Another scale is the Celsius scale, which is based on the freezing and boiling points of water under certain conditions.
  • The scale on a thermometer which enables reading temperature values expressed in degrees. Also called thermometer scale.
