Construction

  • A steel element such as a wire, cable, bar, rod, or strand used to impart prestress to concrete when the element is tensioned.

Food

  • The sinew or strand of strong connective tissue which attaches a muscle to bone. It contains a high proportion of elastin and does not liberate much gelatine on boiling. Usually excised and discarded.
  • Boiled rice with pieces of tempura (deep-fried battered fish, shellfish and vegetables) arranged decoratively on top and dressed with a sauce made from dashi, sake, soya sauce, sugar and grated ginger root, then garnished with chopped spring onions
