The Boys from Syracuse
Definition
Theater
- A musical comedy by George Abbott (book), Lorenz Hart(lyrics), and Richard Rodgers (music) based on Shakespeare's TheComedy of Errors. It opened in New York in 1938 at the AlvinTheatre. The Boys from Syracuse retained only two of the Bard'soriginal lines:...the venom clamours of a jealous womanPoisons more deadly than a mad dog's tooth.
The plot, however, stays close to Shakespeare's story of separatedtwins and multiple mistaken identities. The songs included 'This Can'tBe Love', 'Falling in Love with Love', and 'Sing for Your Supper'.
