  • A comedy by William Wycherley, first performed in1671 at the Dorset Garden Theatre, London. The play was revived in1925 by the Phoenix Society, and in 1950 at Edinburgh's Gateway Theatre.

    The story concerns Gerrard's attempts to win the hand of thebeautiful Hippolita, who is being courted by her pretentious cousin.Gerrard poses as her dancing-master but, because of his clumsiness,is nearly discovered. However, Gerrard and Hippolita are eventuallyunited and all ends happily.
