the Jam Factory



  • (1) Nickname for the Astoria Theatre, in London's Charing CrossRoad. It was built on the site of a jam factory and opened in 1927as 'London's Supreme Cinema'. In 1977 it was renovated as a theater and opened with Jack Good's production of the musical Elvis. Since coming under new management in 1987, the venue has featured live music. (2) A derogatory nickname for the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford on Avon.
