  • A comedy by the US dramatist Clare Boothe Luce. The play, which featuresan all-female cast of 40, was first performed in New York in 1936 at the EthelBarrymore Theatre; a revival in 1973 with Rhonda Fleming and Alexis Smithleading the cast was well received. The story involves the lives, loves, andintrigues of a coven of Park Avenue matrons. It is said that when the play wassubmitted to the Lord Chamberlain for licensing, he initially ruledthat it could only be performed in Britain if the title was changed to'American Women'.
