thermal ammeter

Definition

Electronics

  • An ammeter which incorporates a stretched wire whose length at any given moment depends on the current passing through it. This wire expands when heated and contracts when cooled, and its variations in length deflect an attached pointer which is correlated to a calibrated scale. Such an ammeter serves to measure both direct and alternating currents. Also called hot wire ammeter.
