  • The branch of science that deals with the principles, relationships, and conversions between heat and other forms of energy. There are three fundamental laws that govern thermodynamics. The first states that the total energy in an isolated system remains constant, the second asserts that heat will not be transferred spontaneously from a colder system to a warmer system, and the third affirms that at absolute zero the entropy of a perfect crystalline substance is zero.
