time-delay distortion

Definition

Electronics

  • Distortion of a signal as it passes through a transmission medium in which different frequencies travel at slightly different speeds. This causes a change in the waveform because the rate of change of phase shift is not constant over the transmitted frequency range. Also called delay distortion, envelope delay distortion, phase distortion, or phase delay distortion.
