  • An established standard utilized to quantify the passage of time. The fundamental SI unit of time is the second. A time scale may be expressed in submultiples or multiples of seconds, such as nanoseconds or kiloseconds, although intervals longer than one second are more frequently expressed as minutes, hours, days, and so on.
  • A scale, such as that describing an axis within a coordinate system, in which time is utilized. For instance, the use of time coordinates for the x-axis in a Cartesian coordinate system.
  • The ratio of one event to another. For example, the ratio of the duration of an event in theory, to that actually observed.
