Trapezium Systems

Definition

Astronomy

  • Group of stars, named after and including the Trapezium, involving four companions orbiting each other mutually. 11 such systems were known in 1995 and they seem to be unstable, leading to one member being ejected from the system or going into orbit around another, to form a system consisting of two binary stars with one member itself being a binary.
