  • a famous white wine grape variety originating in Italy but now very widely planted around the world, including in Italy, eastern Europe, Portugal, France, Australia and South America. It is normally used to produce white wines, but is also blended in small quantities into red Chianti wines and is widely processed to produce Cognac and Armagnac brandies.
