• Poets of the south of France in the 11th to 14th centuries, whose works were often performed and sung by wandering minstrels or jongleurs; so called from the Provençal verb trobar, to find or invent. They wrote in Provençal, principally on themes of love and chivalry. Theirequivalents in the more northerly parts of France were the trouvèressee also goliard.
