  • verb to adjust a radio or television to receive a signal, programme or channel

Slang

  • verb to attune to one’s environment, achieve harmony with one’s peer group, the counterculture and/or the cosmos. This hipster and beatnik term became part of the catchphrase slogan of the hippy movement; ‘turn on, tune in, drop out’. Unlike the other two verbs, tune in was not itself adopted into mainstream colloquial speech.
