- A pn-junction diode which is highly doped on each side of the junction. It has a negative resistance at a low voltage in the forward bias direction, due to the tunnel effect. May be used, for instance, in oscillator or amplifier circuits whose frequencies run well into the microwave range. Also called Esaki diode.
