  • Within the binary number system, the result obtained when all the ones and zeroes of a number are interchanged, and 1 is added to the sum. For example, the two's complement of 1011 is 0101, and is calculated as follows: the exchange of ones and zeroes of 1011 yields 0100, to which 1 is added for a result of 0101. Its abbreviation is 2's complement.
