  • In the timber industry, large containers used for steaming logs or submerging them in hot water prior to peeling, slicing them into veneer, or cutting them into wafers. Vats were first widely used in hardwood veneer manufacturing, but are now frequently used in the manufacture of softwood plywood panels, waferboard, and oriented strand board.
