  • A melodrama by the French dramatist Guilbert de Pixérécourt(1773 - 1844). It was first performed in 1789 in Paris and helpedto establish the standard form of French melodrama for the Boulevardtheaters. Based on a novel by François-Guillaume Ducray-Duminil,the play explores the moral dilemma of Victor, who must kill his naturalfather (a bandit) in order to protect his adoptive father.
