Vintners Quality Alliance
- a government-sanctioned system established in Ontario in 1988 and in British Columbia in 1990 by which consumers can identify the origin and be assured of the quality of Canadian wines. It recognizes three Designated viticultural Areas (DVAs) in Ontario, and four, in British Columbia. Only Vitis vinifera varieties can be used, and 100 percent of the grapes must be grown within the DVA for a vintner to use the DVA label on a bottle of wine. Additional standards must be met in order for a vintner to display the VQA medallion.
