• a white wine grape variety that was formerly not widely planted, but that is now grown in the Rhône valley of France, in parts of Australia and South America, in South Africa and in California, US, to produce very good intense, dry white wines with a very flowery bouquet. Unusually, this white grape is allowed in several appellations in France to be added as part of a blend when producing red wines, particularly in the côte Rôtie area of the Rhône region.
